EMDRIA Approved Consultants & Faculty of The Institute for Creative Mindfulness
Since Francine Shapiro’s infamous walk in 1987 when she discovered the desensitizing power of eye movement on distressing memories, the field of EMDR therapy has gone through much growth and development from the way clinicians are trained to the view of EMDR therapy as a holistic treatment approach. The number of trained EMDR therapists is growing exponentially creating a new generation of EMDR therapists. Because of this, it is necessary to examine the generational differences amongst EMDR therapists and how this impacts the implementation of the 8 phases from training to utilization of EMDR therapy with clients. It is also necessary to identify the cultural considerations of younger generations and the implications for the AIP model. This presentation will explore the unique presenting issues of working with younger generation therapists as well as clients.
